THOUGHTFUL GUIDANCE FOR PLANNING DOCUMENTS INCLUDING WILLS, TRUSTS, AND POWER OF ATTORNEY
Schuman & Iselt, LLC, is a two-person firm whose practice is strictly limited to probate of decedent’s estates, trust administration, and thoughtful guidance for wills, trusts, and power of attorney. Our clients are diverse in their financial condition, gender, age, and race, but we have special roots in the LGBT community and in the Buddhist tradition where we have both found our spiritual home. Our shared goals are:
- Expertise. We limit our practice area to avoid straying from our core competence. Our senior partner has, for thirty-five consecutive years, received the highest possible rating, “AV Preeminent,” from Martindale-Hubbell.
- Sensitivity. We want to be easy to talk to—to inspire trust as well as to earn it.
- Affordability. We use a loosely-defined sliding scale fee structure, but our highest rates for our most complicated work for our most affluent clients are far less than big-name downtown firms.
- Creativity. It brings us joy to find simple and effective solutions to problems which appear complicated, or to make a suggestion that lets you do more than you hoped to accomplish.
Our Philosophy
“Sometimes in books and movies the family attorney is a trusted counselor like the doctor or clergy. That’s our model. I’ve always cherished my multi-generational clients who were clients of my father, or whose parents or grandparents were clients of my father. We have clients for whom we wrote their first will when their child was born, and who have returned when their first grandchild is born. What a delight! Now that Kurt has joined my practice, there’s somebody I trust to take care of those clients when I can’t—and perhaps to take care of their children in turn.”
